Beyond Hearing

the sound before
you whisper

movement of my hand
in air

intimate
as skin

impersonal
as a cat’s stare

                - snow

Two A.M.

a drop of honey
hangs on navy cloth
close enough to lick
far enough for wonder

a suspension of light
that waits for dawn
to melt into my hand

Written - Unheard

My brother
showed me music

quavers bunched
like fists

that would hammer
ears and piano -

I saw the notes -
did not hear

the pain he wrote
but could not speak
